The flora have adapted by thriving off lots of light, because they are so close to the surface, they tend to get quite a bit of light. The fauna have adapted by learning to build homes in the crevices, and hide from their enemies in the reefs.

Actually they don't do so very well at all. Coral are quickly dying off due to nothing more drastic than a few degrees change in ocean temperature.

An adaptation of coral is that it finds a place to stay in the ocean, and never moves. They also have mutualistic relationships with other marine life, in order to stay alive.
