In the event of power failure or system crash tools can compare the journal to the main file system and discover inconsistencies without walking the entire file system.

To recover your operating system (this CAN be very simple to do) you must insert your recovery disc, that came with the computer, and follow the on-screen instructions. But doing this will delete ALL of the files on your computer that don't have to do with the operating system. If that doesn't work you either (1)take your computer in for repairs or, (2) you buy a whole new computer.
