The magic wand selects the same colour you click on dependant on the current settings you mentioned.

For example, if you click on some pure white and your tolerance is 1, it will select all of the pure white in that accessable area.

Where as if your tolerance was 50 it would also selct darker shades, like some greys.

Every pixel in image have color assigned to it, Magic Wand makes selections based on similarity of colors. You can type number in Tolerance text box (0-255) which determines how much selected colors should be similar.

Magic Wand selects areas based on clicked point and Tolerance value in Options bar. In new CS6 you have and option Sample Size in Options Bar. In previous versions Magic Wand is using sample size of Color Picker Tool. When Sample Size is set to Point Sample then clicked pixel will be used as sample + Tolerance value. When Sample Size is set to 3x3 then Photoshop will first average color of sample 3x3 or clicked pixel + 8 surrounding pixels + will take in account and Tolerance value.

What is the magic wand used for in Photoshop?

Found in the left side menu normally at the top the wand when selected and clicked on a picture or layer will highlight all the same colour as youve clicked on. However, where there is no liknk to the colour ie. in a try where you can see the white of the sky it will only select where white is touching white (or the colour you want to select)

How does the tolerance setting affect the Magic Wand and the paint bucket?

Using Photoshop i wanted to extract objects from images that had complex background content. Who knows?

There are many ways to remove a portion of a picture from its background. However, the tool I find works best for me is the Magic Pen Tool. After opening the picture, use the Magic Pen Tool to select the image you want. Depending on the complexity of the image, you may need to spend some time doing this, selecting pieces, by holding down the shift key while selecting the image. You want to ultimately end up with the whole item outlined with 1 moving dotted line. Once you’ve gotten the image selected right click (or control + click) and select “Layer via Cut”, this adds a new layer. You can then delete the background layer and you are left with the image you want. Hopefully that helps.

How can you remove the white background from an image using pixlr?

Assuming you want a transparent background: 1. Create a new image [File > New Image] -make sure you have "Transparent" selected 2. Open your image as a new layer [Layer > Open Image as a Layer (or URL/Library)] 3. Use the magic wand tool to select the white area -you may need to adjust the Tolerance level -you may need to use the Ctrl and/or Shift buttons to add or remove selected areas 4. Go to Edit and Cut, or just hit the Delete button 5. The area will now have be checkered grey and white which means it is transparent. Repeat steps 3&4 until all the white areas are removed 6. If you wish to retain the transparent background, save as a .png file

How do you deep etch in Adobe Photoshop?

I don't know much but this may help - you can use the magic wand tool that will select a certain amount of colours e.g if you have a flower with a black background you use the magic wand on the black, it will select the black areas and you can delete it, or the pen tool for more precise tracing around objects. Then you have to do something with the "path" you've made with the pen tool....but I'm not totally sure. I hope this helps get things started!
