Halcyon days are happy and meaningful days in the past that were full of peace and bliss.
Ah, how we reveled in those halcyon days!
"Halcyon days" denotes a period of time, not really a sense. So you could say, 'those halcyon days when i spoke to you'. 'Halcyon' as an adjective, means peaceful, calm, happy and carefree, after the halcyon, or kingfisher, which was believed to make its nest/lay its eggs out at sea. You could perhaps say 'I felt a halcyon sense after talking to you.', but 'halcyon, other than in the set phrase 'halcyon days' sounds a bit pretentious.
Those halcyon days are still fresh in my mind.
The expression or phrase halcyon days means calm or peaceful days. Halcyon is a name greek for a bird. It comes form the ancient belief that there will be calm weather for fourteen days during the winter solstice.
The halcyon town was a great place to vaction. This city used to be halcyon, but then the black and white people stared to fight again. As an adjective : The halcyon days of Summer will soon be replaced by a harsh Winter . Simple, halcyon means tranquil, peaceful. etc. :)
Halcyon Days is what anyone with a busy life style longs for. Think of it as a very calming relaxing days where there is only calm and peace. Picture a deserted island where you have your private harpist and waitress.
The ancient Greek term for a kingfisher was a halcyon. According to legend, the halcyon had the ability to calm the waters, making the sea safe for travel. The word came to represent tranquility and prosperity. Shakespeare's King Lear bears reference to the belief that if the dried carcass of a kingfisher was hung up it would always point it's beak in the direction of the wind. Today begins the halcyon days of winter. The period from December 14 to December 28 - the seven days before and after the Winter Solstice marks the nesting season of the fabled halcyon, who built her nest on the surface of the ocean and quieted the wind and waters while her eggs were being readied to hatch.
