The Flute is longer than a Oboe and an oboe has a double reed and a flute does not have a reed. The flute has a cylindrical bore while the oboe has a conical bore. The fingerings are definitely comparable, but not the same. The oboe has a range from Bb below the treble clef to Ab twice above the treble clef, while the flute has a huge range from C below the treble clef to D twice above the treble clef.

the oboe is a double reed instrument and the Clarinet is a single reed. the oboe is in the key of C and the clarinet is in the key of B flat. You have a different embochure, and the oboe is much more difficult to play.

Admittedly, both an oboe and a flute are woodwind instruments and they can play off the same music. However, the flute is played horizontally and is usually silver or gold/brass (although wooden flutes are common in Africa amongst other places). Oboes are played vertically and are usually black in colour with metal keys (although again this can be changed). The main difference though is how they sound, a flute is much more calming than an oboe. This is because a flute is played by blowing over a mouth piece and an oboe is played by blowing down a reed which vibrates and emits a more squeaky and high pitched noise.
