To some degree, it will decide it's surface temperature. That is, the closer to the sun, the hotter the planet will be. But this is not always the case, for example, Venus is hotter than the Earth not solely because it is closer to the sun, but because of the heavy gaseous atmosphere that traps the heat of the sun.

The distance of a planet from the sun has an effect on many things. These mainly include the orbital period of the planet (time taken to orbit the sun) the orbital speed and the temperature of the planet.

The closer the planet is to the Sun, the warmer it genrally is. Mercury and Venus are closer than Earth and are warmer. Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto are extremely cold. Conditions here on Earth are within the proper range for living things.

Well, because the sun is the dominate gravitational pull in our solar system it keep our solar system together, therefor the closer the planet is to the sun the more gravity the planet will have.

The strength of gravity from an object is inversely proportional tot he square of the distance from that object. So doubling the distance will result in one quarter the original strength of gravity. Tripling the distance will result in one ninth the gravity. On the scale of the whole solar system the effect is quite significant. Neptune orbits about 30 times farther from the sun than Earth does, and does experiences about 900 times less acceleration due to gravity.

it affects temperature, and the length of the year because it takes longer to revolve around the sun

How does gravity affect object of different mass?

Depending on the greater or less the mass is gravity's affect on the object is not applicable as gravity is a never ending motion which does nothing but keep objects intact on planets.
