The work of respiratory system is to filter the air which is being intaken, then absorb the oxygen from alveolies which are present in the lungs into the blood so that each and every part of the body could get the oxygen to be alive and to carry vital body functions.

the respiratory system helps you to breathe. it all starts at the nose. you take in air about 20 times a minute. the air you breathe goes through about 1500 miles of airways and then into the lungs. you give off cxarbon dioxide when you breathe out. the air uyou breathe in travels through the circulatory system to all your internal organs.

Your body is made up of lots and lots of cells. Each of these cells has a function, whether they are fat cells, skin cells, heart muscle cells, body muscle cells, blood cells etc etc. And to perform their function, these cells need glucose (sugars) and oxygen. We get the glucose from the food we eat, and we get the oxygen from the air we breathe in.

So our respiratory system is used to get air from the outside, into these cells. How? Well the lungs are 2 large air filled spaces, and they connect to the outside via your mouth. Lots of pipes connect your mouth to your lungs. The "diaphragm" is a muscle under your lungs, and when it contracts, it increases the amount of space inside your chest. Also, there are small muscles between your ribs, known as "intercostal muscles" which also contract. This causes a negative pressure, and because the air outside has a relatively positive pressure, air flows into your mouth, down those pipes and into your lungs. Your lungs have little sacs (lots!) called "alveoli" which are closely connected to tiny blood vessels called capillaries. Because there is a large "partial pressure" of oxygen in the air than in those capillaries, the oxygen will diffuse into the blood. In the blood, oxygen is held by red blood cells. The red blood cells then flow around your body in the cardiovascular system and give the tissues and cells the oxygen they require.

So that's how the respiratory system helps your body.

It gets O2 to the body and removes CO2 from the body via the lungs

The primary function of the respiratory system is to supply the blood with oxygen in order for the blood to deliver oxygen to all parts of the body. The respiratory system does this through breathing. When we breathe, we inhale oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide. This exchange of gases is the respiratory system's means of getting oxygen to the blood.

The respiratory system is a system in the body that takes in oxygen and replaces it with carbon dioxide when you breathe. Every mammaldoes this.

The respiratory system sees to it that we breathe.

Path of the Respiratory System # Air enters your body through your nose and mouth # Air goes down into the chest through the trachea # Air flows into the alveoli # Air passes from the alveoli and into the capillaries # Oxygen is given off and carried by your red blood cells to the body cells # Carbon dioxide goes from the capillaries into the lungs # Carbon dioxide leaves your body traveling back up through the airways
