The name Jehovah literally means, "He Causes to Become." As for where it comes from other than he himself taking that name as the Almighty God he is and only by him can his divine prophesies be fulfilled or "become, it's is also commonly found only in four places in the King James Bible although in some other translations it has been restored in it's rightful places which total over 7,000 actual times which harmonizes with the original scrolls and manuscripts. The following scripture quotes are in the modern English although it means the same in the King James. In the King James it can be found in Exodus 6:3 "And I used to appear to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob as God Almighty, but as respects my name Jehovah I did not make myself known to them."

You will also find it in Isaiah 12:2 "Look! God is my salvation. I shall trust and be in no dread; for Jah Jehovah is my strength and [my] might, and he came to be the salvation of me."

It is also located at Isaiah 26:4 "Trust in Jehovah, YOU people, for all times, for in Jah Jehovah is the Rock of times indefinite."

As for re-reinforcement of who he is I suggest the reading of Psalms 83:18 "That people may know that you, whose name is Jehovah, You alone are the Most High over all the earth."

Where did Jehovah's Witnesses get their name? Putting forth an honest hearted effort of finding which religion truly reflects the qualities of the Lord Christ Jesus and a close look at what The Bible has to say will answer this question. The words of the Apostle Peter on this subject can be found in Acts 15:14 "Sym′e‧on has related thoroughly how God for the first time turned his attention to the nations to take out of them a people for his name."

For whose name? Taking into consideration the above quoted verses that reveal the name Jehovah a review of the words spoken by him found in Isaiah 43:10-12 "YOU are my witnesses," is the utterance of Jehovah, "even my servant whom I have chosen, in order that YOU may know and have faith in me, and that YOU may understand that I am the same One. Before me there was no God formed, and after me there continued to be none. 11 I-I am Jehovah, and besides me there is no savior."12 "I myself have told forth and have saved and have caused [it] to be heard, when there was among YOU no strange [god]. So YOU are my witnesses," is the utterance of Jehovah, "and I am God."

So with logic and discernment we can conclude that god has taken a people for his name, hence, Jehovah's Witnesses. They bear a message that should behoove any with an honest heart to at least investigate and find for themselves the hope for mankind that can only come from the one true god, Jehovah. Have the governments or the religious leaders of this world really provided a clear answer? It is there. It's found in God's word the Bible and it is understandable. It can change lives for the better. Hebrews 4:12 "For the word of God is alive and exerts power and is sharper than any two-edged sword and pierces even to the dividing of soul and spirit, and of joints and [their] marrow, and [is] able to discern thoughts and intentions of [the] heart."

Another identifying mark of Jehovah's witnesses is their unity and love. John 13:34,35, "I am giving YOU a new commandment, that YOU love one another; just as I have loved YOU, that YOU also love one another. 35 By this all will know that YOU are my disciples, if YOU have love among yourselves."

1 Corintians 1:10 "Now I exhort YOU, brothers, through the name of our Lord Jesus Christ that YOU should all speak in agreement, and that there should not be divisions among YOU, but that YOU may be fitly united in the same mind and in the same line of thought."

They are know worldwide for the love of not only their brothers and sisters in faith but of those around them also. As for unity, they are undivided no matter what race, nationality, color, tongue or country. They feel as Peter did when he made this statement in Acts 10:34 At this Peter opened his mouth and said: "For a certainty I perceive that God is not partial, 35 but in every nation the man that fears him and works righteousness is acceptable to him."

Can other religions truly claim to have such unity and love or are they willing to take up arms and slaughter others of their own faith in war? The record speaks for itself and can serve as proof with a little research.

It is derived from the tetragrammaton of the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament), in which God was represented by the four letters, YHWH. This ended up being pronounced, as Yahweh, by those speaking Hebrew, and as Jehovah, when Latinized.

The oldest reference to YHWH is on the Mesha Stele, from about 840 B.C.

Does Jehovah mean Shalom in the Bible?

Jehovah is a name for God. Shalom, I believe means "peace". In Judges 6:24 a name is given to God, "Jehovah-Shalom" which means "The LORD is Peace." It is a Name of God but when looking at the two words separately they do not necessarily mean the same thing. Spiritually speaking Jehovah can mean peace to many people, but there are times and places where Jehovah means something else entirely such as judgment, spiritually speaking.
