On the C280, the trunk is electro-mechanical. It should open either with the key fob, or with the "valet" key that slides out of the fob. The C-Class Mercedes' still have the traditional exterior keyhole. Also, on the C-Class, there is a switch on the center console between the seats that opens the trunk.

Mine doesn't have automatic trunk release. I use the key to unlock my doors to open the trunk.
The cd changer in the 1998 Mercedes Benz E320 would be located in the trunk of the car. If you are not able to locate the cd changer in the car or trunk, it may not have been included. The cd changer may have been an optional feature.
The trunk release is located in the center console between the two front seats. it is a square button.
Try the trunk release on/off button located in the glove box. If this button is in the off position then the trunk release button will not work.
Usually they are in the glove box, but they could be located on the floor, in front of the seat, on the drivers side, or on the drivers door itself. The 1998 Buick Regal unfortunately does not have a manual trunk release. There are kits available to add a manual trunk release, however.
Have a helper pull the release handle while you look at the release mechanism. This will tell you if the cable is broken or if the problem is in the trunk mechanism.
on mine it was just with the keys or the little button for trunk release on the keys. Mine never had a lever inside the car.
