by turning from spiritual truth, we are infact rejecting God's perfect plan for us, which is to live in loving, father-child, relationship with him. Without Jesus in our hearts and lives, there is no 'light'. if you think about it, darkness itself is not a thing, but merely the abscence of light. if you apply this to spirituality, with the abscence of God the father as the light, there is spiritual darkness...
In the Bible, darkness is often used symbolically to represent sin, evil, and spiritual blindness. It signifies a separation from God and a lack of understanding or awareness of His truth. Darkness is associated with moral wrongdoing and the presence of evil forces. It serves as a contrast to light, which represents goodness, truth, and the presence of God. The theme of darkness in the Bible highlights the consequences of turning away from God and the need for spiritual enlightenment and redemption.

In the moral realm darkness speaks of depravity and base behavior - often to things that have dire consequences for others. Light is symbolic of the Light of Christ or the light of knowldge and truth. It is the opposite of darkness. Christ is the Light while Satan is nothing but darkness to light and truth. One may hear the saying "I have seen the light" meaning that one has a testimony of Christ and the truthfulness of the gospel. Coming into the Light is coming from ignorance to knowledge of the truth of all things. When one come to the Light of Christ one needs never fear the darkness again, for light banishes all darkness.
When we switch on the light, we overcome darkness and we see what is available around us. Enlightenment is switching on the light within. How do you switch on the light within? How can you get enlightenment? It is by overcoming the darkness of ignorance. We are all enveloped in ignorance, the darkness. As long as there is darkness of ignorance, there can be no enlightenment. What should we do? Drop our ignorance. How do you drop ignorance? By realizing the truth. When we realize the truth and we overcome our ignorance, we reach that state of realization which is enlightenment. Once we are enlightened then we can see what we are within, we realize the truth, just as we overcome all the myths we have been taught.
