As the heat is lost from the water substance, the H2O molecules lose energy and move around less. This makes the state change. It is also inversely true for when heat is gained. It adds energy to the molecules and they move around more.

What has to happen in order for water to change one state to another?

your mom has to happen

Explain why changes of state are considered physical transitions and not chemical processes?

This is because when a substance, such as water, is changed to a solid (ice) it keeps its same, original properties! A chemical change involves changing the substance into a completely new substance. Water, on the other hand, can go from a solid, to a liquid, to a gas without changing its properties, only its state!

What is the change of state for solid into a liquid?

CHANGES OF STATE change of state (or change of phase) of a substance describes the change of a substance from a solid to a liquid, liquid to a vapor (or gas), vapor to a liquid, liquid to a solid, solid to vapor, or vapor to a solid. In meteorology you are concerned primarily with the change of state of water in the air. Water is present in the atmosphere in any or all of the three states (solid, liquid, and vapor) and changes back and forth from one state to another. The mere presence of water is important, but the change of state of that water in the air is significant because it directly affects the weather. The solid state of water is in the form of ice or ice crystals. The liquid state of water is in the form of raindrops, clouds, and fogs. The vapor state of water is in the form of unseen gases (water vapor) in the air

Is water freezing to form a ice a chemical change?

No, freezing is not a chemical change. It is a physical one. It (freezing) is reversable, and the substance that is changing state to a solid or from a solid is not undergoing any chemical changes.

How does matter change from one state to a other?

Matter changes state via the addition or subtraction of thermal energy. For instance, Ice melts into water, water boils into steam.

True.

How is water and water vapor the same?

Chemically, they are both H20. One is in liquid state, one is in vapor state, but there is no chemical change there.

How does the way the water changes from one state to another compare to the way other subtances change?

The energy density is higher than for other materials, and water has an anomalous density change right around the freezing (melting) point.

How does a change on thermal energy cause matter to change from one state to another?

It causes matter to change by turning the water into gas which is vaporization, turning water into ice.
