The drum is very durable. you can pretty much bang that thing really hard and it won't break, and least mine hasn't. i say you go for it.
The drum sounds were created with Akai S900 and S1000 samplers and controlled by MIDI sequencer. Some of the samples came from vintage Roland (TR-808 and 909) drum machines, and Simmons drum machines from the mid to late 80's.
