There are several things that can contribute to a negative pregnancy test even if you are pregnant. Some medications can give you a false negative, the timing of the test can affect the results. If you did not follow directions properly; if you let the test sit for too long the results may read negative after a while. It is important to read the results within the amount of time given on the instructions of that particular pregnancy test you bought. To ensure the best results:

  • Take the test in the morning, if possible, because your hCG (pregnancy hormone) levels are at it's highest
  • Don't drink a bunch of fluids before taking the test because it will dilute your urine and can affect the results
  • Take the test no more than 1-2 days before expected period. Although some test say that you can see results up to 5 days before your missed period the percentage of accuracy is very low.
  • urinate for as long as possible on the foam like strip
  • wait for the results

Answer

Nowadays you can take a pregnancy test as early as 4 days before your next period is about to come. There are pregnancy tests in market which can tell even before 4 to 5 days before your pregnancy can come. But my doctor said that the HCG level in the body " doubles " every 48 hours, so if your pregnancy tests said -ve then try after 2 days as that might give a better result.

Answer

You can take a HPT as early as 4 days before your period is due. Make sure the HPT box says that it tests ? days before period. Or you can take it 1 to 2 days after your cycle is due.

AnswerYou can take a pregnancy test a few days before your expected period. There are tests that are more sensitive and would detect a pregnancy earlier than others. For best results, a week after your missed period is preferred.

At least 10-12 days after ovulation. It is best to wait until your missed period to get an accurate result. I tested with the early pregnancy test (5 days before missed period) and I got a negative. Then I took a test 3 days after my late period and got a positive.
