Scientists theories lead to knowing that Earth was made up about 5 billion years ago. The sun was a swirling cloud if gas and dust. Soon the cloud started to flatten out. then hydrogen and helium filled up the flat cloud and our sun was born. the planets formed from the left over matter.
Scientists believe that there was dust and gas floating in space in a "nebula". Gravity started pulling the dust and all the other things together. Pressure started building up and the nebula got very hot . And that's how the Sun was made. Then the left over dust and gas started forming into tiny little clumps and those eventually grew and formed into what we now know as the planets. Using all the evidence they have today, scientists believe Earth was formed about 4.5 or 4.6 billion years ago.
