Gabapentin is primarily a seizure drug, which can also be used to treat neuropathic pain and vasomotor symptoms. Gabapentin could help ease these symptoms if they occur as part of Bipolar disorder. However, it is not primarily a bipolar drug and will not stabilize moods like lithium or antidepressants.
It's not known to be an effective treatment for bipolar disorder.
Lithium
TTM or trichotillomania is not automatically associated with Bipolar disorder. It is more associated with obsessive-compulsive disorder or OCD. However, it can be a comorbid condition that accompanies manic or depressive behavior during bipolar episodes. It is treated as a separate condition, but many treatments for bipolar disorder are similar for TTM so treating one might help treat the other. = =
I was on lithium for quite some time and it didn't work real well for me. My dr. just recently put me on Lamictal for my bipolar disorder and it has worked fabulously! I would highly recommend it to anyone.
