One symptom of a bad crank shaft sensor is the car having trouble starting. The car stalling and backfiring are other symptoms of a bad crank shaft sensor.
Need to know what size engine it has.
I would like to know where the cam sensor is on a 1999 pathfinder and is there one or they calling it a crank shaft sensor The cam shaft position sensor is located in the distributor.
The car won't start. Need a scan tool.
You will have a no spark situation. Testing it with a volt meter is easy. Twist the crank shaft slowly by hand and watch volt meter. If there is voltage and no voltage the sensor is good. No readings sensor is bad
It lets the computer know where the crank shaft is at all times, and yes it can cause a no start.
Need to know what size engine.V6, Vortex 4.3
Probably not. Would like to know the year, make, model, engine, history and pending diagnostic trouble codes.
The answer depends on what engine you have.
One thing is for sure, it wouldn't run.
There is only one crank sensor fitted, you may also have a cam sensor. the crank sensor is located either around the bellhousing or around the front crank pulley. It either has 2 or 3 wires. It picks the signal off the revolving crank so look for a sensor in the block near flywheel.
Why the crank sensor? do you know for sure that's what is wrong? What are your symptoms? I cant recall exactly the configuratiion on the escort. Are you mechanical at all? what year is it? I can help if I have more info! hit me back on this.
The crank sensor is an important part of the engine wiring. Without it the engine does not know when to fire. There is no way to by pass it.
A way to tell if the Crankshaft Position has gone bad is if the engine has a strong kick (Turnover) but, does not fire or start.my 2000 Hyundai accent will not catch fire
No, the computer needs that sensor to know crank timing.
crank position sensor
if your crank position sensor is bad you car or truck will not start because you will not have spark
Need to know what year it is, engine size
Have you used a code reader to find out why the light is on? There is no point in wasting all of that money on parts that you didn't need when you could buy a code scanner and know exactly what's wrong.
I don't know for sure, but I did work on my jeep and was going to change the crankshaft position sensor so I unplugged it from the harness. Battery maintained charge the whole time the sensor was unplugged (a week). Could not get the sensor bolt off so we just plugged it back in and once again battery was dead by the next morning.
6.0 powerstroke had crank case sensor replaced by a dealership. 24hrs of runtime and engine refuses to start again. what happened to owning a reliable diesel??
The computer needs the crank and cam sensor signals to know when to send the fire signal to the correct spark plug. If either one has failed or is intermittent the engine will not run. Mine became intermittent after the engine got hot. It would start again after it cooled down.
Location is on the transmission bellhousing. Where exactly in the bellhousing, I don't know. Tomorrow, Saturday April 7, 2007, I will be all over the bellhousing to locate the crank sensor. At that time I will post exact location! If anyone comes up with the location before tomorrow, please post it on this page.
You must know the engine, such as 4.2liter
