Earl is expected to pass offshore the coast of Virginia, but not too far off the coast. There is currently a hurricane watch for the coast of Virginia and preparations should be made as such. Check with your local national weather service (probably in Wakefield, VA) for local effects of the storm.

Earl will spread wind and rain throughout much of eastern North Carolina and southeastern Virginia. Some wind and rain will also occur not too far from the coast throughout DelMarVa and New Jersey, up into southern and eastern New England. Wind is always considerably greater right on the water, and the only locations expected to experience tropical storm conditions away from the coast are in extreme eastern North Carolina.
