It depends how long the company is required to keep them. Countries have different laws regarding the retention of personal information.
Alltel can retrieve text messages as far as four months back. The numbers called and texted can be retrieved much further back.
iChat is serviced by AOL Aim services, so it would be the same as everyone else's AIM programs, but I don't know if it supports text messages.
I'm from abroad but I usually visits Philippines every 3 months. As far as I know, some of the companies offers two plan: 1. 600 text messages and an additional charge of 0.10 centavos for every exceeding text message. 2. 350 text messages and an additional charge of 0.15 centavos for every exceeding text message.
As far as I know, only a month for security reason of the costumers. And it will be against the law if a costumer's Privacy Act get reveal to someone. The only way someone can get a record of the messages of that person is if was order from the court.

Nobody can get the actual text messages and what they say without a court order. All they can get is the same info that shows on the bill if you have detailed billing. They can get the date/time they were sent/received and what numbers they were sent to/from. As far as e-mails are concerned they cannot see any information at all, other than the amount of data being used.
