Theres no good answer to this question as it depends greatly on visual acuity, altitude and weather. Astronauts can see across entire continents, whereas on a foggy day the visibility might be reduced to less than 1/4 mile.
I've found that on a really clear day at around 5000 feet, i can pick out a city skyline from about 50 miles away.
Its been reported that in WWII Chuck Yeager used to spot fighter planes from 50 miles away. At over 30 000 feet I've heard that you can see over 200nm
