Jesus

The relevant verses are as follows:-

Mat 14:22 And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.

Mat 14:23 And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.

Mat 14:24 But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.

Mat 14:25 And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.

Mat 14:26 And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.

Mat 14:27 But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.

Mat 14:28 And Peter ed him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.

Mat 14:29 And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.

Mat 14:30 But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.

Mat 14:31 And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

Mat 14:32 And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.

Mat 14:33 Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

This was not the only time Jesus commanded the sea and it became calm:-

Luk 8:22 Now it came to pass on a certain day, that he went into a ship with his disciples: and he said unto them, Let us go over unto the other side of the lake. And they launched forth.

Luk 8:23 But as they sailed he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy.

Luk 8:24 And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm.

Luk 8:25 And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him.

Who was this man Jesus?

This question is ed by determining our Origins . In the creation account of the Old Testament, God created everything:- Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

(Read the rest of the Chapter 1 of Genesis for details:-And God said, Let there be light: ... ... Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. ... Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear:... ..., Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: ...... , Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven...

... , Let the waters bring forth abundantly , and fowl that may fly above the earth... ,,, Let the earth bring forth the living creature ,,,, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth... ... Let us make man in our image, after our likeness:... And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good.....

So, the God of Moses created everything.

Now go to the New Testament, and here the Word created everything:- Joh 1:1-3 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God.

All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Joh 1:10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

So, there are two separate creators of this unique event?

Just who is this 'Word'?Joh 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Joh 1:17-18 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

The Word is Jesus Christ.

Jesus is called the Son of God, both at the start of His ministry, and after He was resurrected :-

Joh 1:29 The next day John [the Baptist] seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

Joh 1:35-37 Again the next day after John [the Baptist] stood, and two of his disciples; And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he [John the Baptist] saith, Behold the Lamb of God! And the two disciples heard himspeak, and they followed Jesus.

Joh 1:40-41 One of the two which heard John [the Baptist] speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. He [Andrew] first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.

Joh 1:43 The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me.

Joh 1:45 Philip findeth Nathanael, and saithunto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.

Joh 1:48-49 Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus ed and said unto him [Nathanael], Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee. Nathanael ed and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.Joh 20:24-31 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.

The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. And Thomas ed and said unto him [Christ], My Lord and my God.

Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:

But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ [the awaited Messiah of the Old Testament] , the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

Christ created everything - every single thing:-Col 1:12-13 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

Col 1:14-18 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

Christ said He was the 'I Am' of the Old Testament, and the Pharisees tried to stone Him for this:-Joh 8:52-59 Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death. Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself? Jesus ed, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God: Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying. Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad. Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

The Pharisees accused Christ of blasphemy for making Himself God - they knew exactly what this meant:- Joh 10:30-33 I and my Father are one. Then the Jews took up stonesagain to stone him.Jesus ed them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me? The Jews ed him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.

Paul knew Christ is the God of the Old Testament:- 1Co 10:1-4 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the [Red] sea; And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; And did all eat the same spiritual meat; And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

Worship the Lord God only:-Mat 4:8-10 Again, the devil [Satan] taketh him [Jesus Christ] up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me[Satan]. Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

It is not a case of it being either Jesus or God who walked on the water and saved Peter: it was God Himself in the form of Jesus Christ , and He can save anyone who requests it.

It was Jesus who walked on water with Peter in The Bible, specifically in the Gospel of Matthew. Peter also briefly walked on water before doubting and beginning to sink.

The account of Peter walking to Jesus on the water doesn't relate how far he went; only that he began to sink when he became "afraid." See Matthew 14:26-32.

Explain the significance of Peter throughout Jesus’ ministry and in the development of the early Church?

The Apostle Peter depicted several things in the Ministry of Jesus. He showed how close one can be with God. He was one of the closest to Jesus was free to express himself, ask or answer questions. Through his responses to Jesus we learnt with faith we can walk on water. He did when Jesus asked him to come to him on water but began to drown when he took his attention off Jesus. The significance of this is that our faith should be stable. Through Peter we see that God can speak through a man and the devil can too. If we are yielded to God, we hear his voice, if we are to the devil, same happens. When Jesus asked His disciples who people said He was, Peter answered correctly and Jesus said God revealed it to him, so Peter heard from God. When Peter reprimanded Jesus when He spoke about His death, Jesus rebuked Satan yet he was talking to Peter, so Peter yielded himself to the devel at that time. It was through Peter the early Church got to know that the Gentiles also were included in God's salvation plan.
