Atleast 40 - 60 cms away from air bag cover in a car.
the steering box was replaced and the air bag light came on I was careful not to push the steering shaft to far in.
I have never heard of Air Bag chimes. There is seat belt, lights on, door open, but no air bag chime, as far as I know. I suggest you visit your local Ford dealer, for an answer.
As far a way as possible but at a distance where you are still safely able to operate the vehicle
12 inches or more.
From London to Rome is about 775 air miles.
10 inches
As far as I know the force of the impact has to be great enough for the crash sensors to allow the air bags to inflate
There is no set distance ! It depends on the physical form of the driver - as to the position of the seat, creating a comfortable driving position. Air bags are large enough to almost fill the space the driver occupies.
Air miles are more direct. When driving across a mountain range for instance there is often a lot of winding and turning involved to get from one point to another. That is why the driving distance between two places that are reasonably far apart is nearly always longer then the flying distance.
