i live in st. johns Newfoundland which is 500 hundred miles off the continent and we have a very good cell service
I work onboard ships, after leaving port I can get a signal for up to 15 miles from shore. In the Norwegian sector of the North Sea they have repeaters on the oil platforms so can get a signal while hundreds of miles from shore.
