It is approximately 220 miles.
If you take I26 up to I40 and shoot I40 across, you'll go through North Carolina, Tennessee, Arkansas, Texas, and New Mexico. If you take I85 to Atlanta and shoot across I20, you'll go through Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, and New Mexico. Really depends on where in SC you're leaving from and where in AZ you're going.
From Amarillo, Texas, you take I40 westbound. From El Paso, you take I10 westbound (initially heading north). From Flagstaff, Arizona, you take I40 eastbound. From Denver, Colorado, you take I25 southbound. From Chihuahua, you take highway 23 north, which becomes highway 11 at the border. From New York, you buy a plane ticket.
Well, south and west is probably the answer you're looking for. It would really depend on what part of Texas you were going to. You could just take I40 west and run into northern Texas, or you could take I85 south to I20 west and go into central Texas, for example.

Yes, on pretty much every major avenue of approach. The ones on I40 do weigh in motion.

Takes about an hour to drive there, depending on where in Raleigh you're going to. Just go straight up I95, then take I40 west. From there, you can hit points in Raleigh directly from I40, I440, US64/264, I540, etc.
