By road, from central Wales to central Scotland is about 380 miles. The same distance measured as the crow flies would be approximately 250-300 miles. If you take the distance from border to border at the respective closest points, the distance narrows to 120-140 miles.

In other words, they are pretty close. It is possible to drive from Wales to Scotland in roughly 2 and a half hours (according to Google Maps).
