Depends on what part of Denver. I work off of Pecos St., and Boulder is maybe 15 miles from there, but that's in the northwestern part of Denver. According to Google Maps, which measures the distance and routes between the main post offices of each city, it's 29.1 miles, but we're talking downtown Denver, and not in a part like, say, the area which borders Westminster.
Also, if this stems from a conversation with someone from Colorado, keep in mind that, like with all cities, they'll probably name the city the metro area is centered around (e.g., someone from Garner, North Carolina would be likely to say they were from Raleigh, someone from Royal Oak, Michigan would likely say they were from Detroit, etc.), so someone who says they're from Denver but live, say, 10 miles or less from Boulder probably lives in someplace like Broomfield, Westminster, Lafayette, Louisville, Superior, etc.
