Shinkansen, the original Bullet Train in Japan runs 240-300 km/h (149-186 mph) in regular service. Test runs have reached 443 km/h (275 mph).

The fastest conventional high-speed trains are French TGVs. The current TGV speed record is 574.8 kilometres per hour (357.2 mph)

Maglev trains which float above the track by the means of powerful magnets are faster, but there are very few in service, mostly as test facilities. The world speed record was set by one in Japan at 581 kilometres per hour (361 mph). However, the tests showed issues with stability and the train was deemed not ready for passenger service.

China's Bullet Train had lines operating at 350km per hour. However, recently they lowered operating speeds to 300 km/h due to environmental and safety concerns.

Shinkansen , aka The Bullet Train, is known to have speeds of up to 320 km/h. Some test trains have been recorded at 360 km/h. But due to problems of noise pollution, overhead wire wear, and braking distances it is not commercially feasible.
