The Loihi Island/Volcano is estimated to grow about 1 metre every ten years.
So it is expected to break the surface of the ocean in about 9000 years.
(i hope it can hold its breath) =D
It will probably not stop for many centuries. At this time, Loihi seamount, and undersea volcano on the bottom of Mauna Loa, is spewing lava and is growing. It will become the next Hawaiian Island, and eventually create a large addition to the Big Island. Assuming that this process will not stop, Loihi will continue to spew and erupt, as other volcanoes like Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa, and Kilauea eventually grow even more dormant. Although there is a chance of another active volcano on Maui, these volcanoes will become extinct, like Diamond Head near Honolulu, on Oahu. Loihi will be the new Kilauea.
The Lo'ihi Seamount is 22 miles off the southeast coast of the Big Island and has been actively growing for 400,000 years and should become an island in between 10,000 and 100,000 years.
Loihi is located off the southern coast of Hawaii's Big Island.
Lo'ihi
None. Loihi is far underwater, and so is not readily accessible to humans
The name of the new Hawaiian island is Loihi. It will break the surface in about 18,000 years so it will not be during our own lifetime.

Another 50,000 years

A new Hawaiian island, Loihi, will break the surface in roughly 18,000 years. Assuming that the USA and it's states are still intact at this time, Loihi will be a new island of the state of Hawaii.
Loihi is generally not explosive as it produces basaltic lava. Since the vent is still under water it mainly produces pillow basalts. As the growing seamount reaches the ocean surface the potential will arise for occasional phreatic eruptions, which can be explosive.

Yes. Currently a volcano named Loihi is building up off the coast of the big island. In a few hundred thousand years it will reach the ocean surface and form a new island.
Loihi is located off the southern coast of Hawaii's Big Island.
