Food handlers can contaminate food if they haven't washed their hands or aren't wearing gloves. They can also contaminate food by sneezing or coughing over it, or not wearing a hair net in some cases.

Food Handlers have a very important role in making the food free from any foodborne illnesses. Food is mostly handled by Chefs, Waiters or Servers raw or cooked before being served in your table.

Just think about if these people don't wash their hands and touch your food?

There are a lot of standards and rules to follow if you are a food handler. But that's all for the safety of the customers, the restaurant your working and your job. That's also why restaurants requires (may differ in some states) you to have a food handlers permit.

Food can be contaminated in various ways. Most commonly food is contaminated from lack of cleanliness. Germs and bacteria can be transferred from your hands or any surface to the food being handled and then to your system. Example: If you go to the bathroom and do not wash your hands things like e-coli and cholera can be transfrrred from fecal matter.
