So long as it's been maintained properly, the N14 was a very solid motor - but the N14 (and pretty much any Cummins motor) are a nuisance to work on. You may want to consider a newer model N14, if the option is available to you. In 1990, the electronic controls were very rudimentary, and the later models, with updated electronics, tended to be considerably more efficient. This is especially important if you're going to be coupling it to an electronically controlled automatic transmission.
