You see 80% of the oil that Japan was using was from the USA so the Japanese tried to be self sufficient by taking over islands that had some oil but with the Americans helping China that was very difficult. After Pearl Harbor the US deployed troops in both fronts .The Japanese lost because they were just overwhelmed by the Americans
