When did john newlands create his periodic table?

John Newlands first published his "Law of Octaves" in 1863. It pointed out a recurrence of properties for every eighth element in a scheme involving just 21 of between 55 and 60 elements known at the tiime. Two years later he presented to the Chemical Society in London a scheme that involved nearly all of the known elements. However he tried to 'force fit' elements into this scheme with little insight, and some of the family groupings are nonsensical. Mendeleev's Periodic Law was published in 1869. His first periodic table that went with it at the time was followed by a revised version in 1871 which incorporated all known element, and left gaps for elements yet to be discovered.

Who was the scientist responsible for the first periodic table?

To study elements many attempts were made to classify the elements.Dobereighner tried to arrange the elements int groups of three and called them as Dobereighner' triads.Newland also categorized the elements in groups of eight like the musical notesand called them Newland's octaves. But the most credited person for creation of periodic table was Dimitry Ivanovich Mendeleev who arranged the elements on the basis of increasing atomic massesand made an actual periodic table placing all the discovered elements discovered at that time. Not only that, he also left spaces for future elements to be discovered. But there were some defects in his table which were corrected by Henry Mosleywhen he formed the modern periodic table based on increasing atomic number.

What is used to determine the order in which the elements are placed on the periodic table?

All elements are surrounded by electrons. The electrons fit into orbits. The first orbit holds two electrons. All the rest hold more. Each orbit is one level in the chart. When an orbit is full, then the chart starts again at the next level. As a result the first element in each level has one electron in its outer orbit. The chart gives an understanding of the properties of the elements above and below a particular element as well as alongside a particular element. Platinum worked in a catalytic converter. It was expensive. Someone tried other elements in the Platinum group. They also worked and cost less. If you are referring to their arrangement on the periodic table, then the is atomic number. The atomic number is the same as the number of protons, so the elements are arranged by increasing number of protons.

What did Johann Dobereiner and John Newlands find when they were trying to arrange the elements?

They both found patterns relating element properties to atomic weight, but when they tried to make them universal they broke down.Doebereiner's triads worked for some elements, but he was unable to fit every element into a triad. Newlands' first publication involved only about 25 of the more than 60 elements known at the time; when his work was criticized on this basis, he tried to "force fit" all of the other elements, arriving at some quite bizarre groupings.

How was mendeleyev able to predict the existence of elements that had not yet discovered?

Because there were gaps in the periodic table, which he invented. Unlike other scientist of the time who tried to make the elements fit theircategorising system, such as Newlands and his law of octaves, Mendeleev came to the conclusion that they had not discovered all the elements as he noticed patterns that allowed you to categorise elements if you left gaps that undiscovered elements could fill.
