Eastern Europe
Eastern Europe probably has a greater number of languages, but is larger than Western Europe.
Baltic-Slavic languages are spoken in Eastern Europe, mainly in countries such as Poland, Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. These languages belong to the Indo-European language family and are closely related to each other.
Culturally, Eastern Europe is Eastern Europe. There are other regions in Eastern Europe, however. There is the Balkans, the Meditteranean, the Middle Eastern, the Caucus, the Northern, the Central, etc.
It gained dominance of Western Europe and a stepping stone into Eastern Europe.
Language barriers will cause a divide anywhere. Eastern Europe is mainly composed of Slavic languages while Western Europe is mainly composed of Romance and Germanic languages. Language barriers will cause the inability to communicate.
