I may be a Buddhist, a Hindu, a Taoist or Atheist..

  • My answer may not be relevant to the question. I posted that answer before the questioned was changed in it's present form. The original question was; ""Where would you be without The Bible?" . Please see History of Changes on left...
The Bible has taught me tolerance, understanding, not judging others, being kind to others and give respect (but if I don't get the respect back I am given the choice to talk to the person and if they don't want to change then I have the choice to walk away.) That we are all brothers and sisters no matter what color our skin or our cultural differences. Not be pompous about my religion as if I have all the answers (God is the only one that knows the whole plan.) I NEVER feel alone and find strengths within myself to endure almost anything and I have few fears in my life because I trust in God and know although I may feel it's not the answer or action I was hoping for it was meant to be and when I look back I realize that it was a good decision even though it wasn't the one I was hoping for. Never to label people. Being humbled by fighting panic attacks, Agoraphobia, loss of loved ones (some to suicide and Aids) and to NEVER quit fighting for the rights of others or what is right even if my voice is the only one and an echo comes back. NEVER to back down out of fear, but plow head on. I've learned I can't save the world or change wrong-doings, but I can start somewhere and do the best I can. If I help but one person then I'm happy. That family and friends (even if we are all different personalities) is extremely important. To have tolerance for the young and aging. Marcy

As well as most of the above poster's wonderful lessons learnt, I've found the Bible to be an indispensible guidebook for any situation life may throw at you. It puts every issue, dilemma or life experience into perspective and contains wisdom or illumination. It may not specifically mention situations but it teaches general principles to apply. Above all, it gives assurance that I don't have to worry and fear the end of life - even though it remains an unpleasant part of it. It is just the leaving behind of something inferior to see the real King face to face. So it affects daily life by freeing you of that and other fears. And it teaches that I as an individual am important to Jesus and that at any moment I can call upon Him. That makes all the difference to every part of my life! The Bible continues to affect life in the present even though written in the past because it was written with the present time in mind- as well as time that has gone before and that which remains. I was raised a Catholic and attended Bible studies in High School at a Protestant School (see my Bio-page). I was shocked to learn how a supposed to be All-Good god can be cruel and violent. (see link on left; "Cruelty and Violence in the Bible") When I started asking this question, I got the same answer; "we are only humans and can't know what god's about god's plan are." Sorry, I can't accept this answer. I need a more rational and realistic answer. No one can accuse me from drifting away from the Bible because of ignorance of the Bible. I Know the Bible, and that's the reason that I rejected it. Do I believe in god. Yes, but not the concept of god that is depicted in the Bible... Itchie.c2
  • For balance, I'll also provide link for "Good Stuff in the Bible." However, I found out that I can improve my Spirituality by my own efforts without imploring the help of god. I found several Philosophies that can help me achieve this.
  • If Religion is based on the cruelties of it's leaders, then no religion that I know of today is of god. At least on my understanding of an All-Good god.
  • Luke 16:15 And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.

Jesus Christ has given meaning to my life. He is my strenghth and my salvation. I live every day to bring glory to his name and according to my will. Jesus has provided a way for me to get to heaven when I die. He died on the cross for you and me so that anyone who believes in him shall not die but have eternal life in heaven with him. Jesus has made me want to live my life with kindness and I want to let others know about my God and how great and powerful he is.
