Although I'm certain hours were longer 100 years ago, a huge change came in the concept of the "weekend". My father talks of it being common practice for all employees and managers in our family ice cream production company to work 6 days every week. Saturday was sometimes a light day, but it was considered a regular work day in the 1930's.
The hours were commonly quite a bit longer than today. The 1938 Fair Labor Standards Act instituted the 40-hour work week, to prevent abuse of the millions of new factory workers that had left farm work as Henry Ford's tractor had made them redundant. The tractor dropped food costs dramatically, but these dislocated farm workers were poorly educated and easy for factory operators to take advantage of while they tried to learn new skills.

Over the years it has been every day of the week.
The present perfect and simple past tenses may initially appear to be interchangeable, but this is not the case. The present perfect tense is concerned with actions that have not yet completed, and the simple past tense refers to actions that have completely finished. Example: Present Perfect - "I have washed ten cars this week!" (the week is not yet over) Simple Past - "I washed ten cars last week." (The week is entirely over)
