Antarctica is a very remote place, even today it takes a long time to travel there. And Antarctica hasn't got any permanent population, so there are no cities, almost no infra structure or anything. There's a couple of research stations and that's pretty much it. Not much capacity to take in visitors.
There are a couple of mid-sized cruise ships approved for passenger traffic in heavy ice who tours the area which make up the bulk of antarctic tourism.

they have been increased
With the advances of technology- especially flight it has increased. Even with threats of terrorism, tourism continues to increase.

Would you like to narrow that down a bit? "Before man came to earth" covers a period of roughly 5 billions years. Over that time, the temperature in Antarctica changed a great deal, both up and down. For that matter, over much of that time, Antarctica was not even located at the South Pole.
Tourism has seen significant growth over the past 20 years due to increased accessibility, globalization, and technology. There has been a shift towards sustainable and experiential travel, with a rise in eco-tourism and cultural immersion. The sharing economy has also impacted the industry, with the rise of platforms like Airbnb and Uber changing how people travel.
