Acapulco, Mexico.
Uh, no.
From late noon until midnight.
The world record for high dive in 2009 was set by Olivier Favre from Switzerland with a dive from 54.5 meters. This record was achieved at the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series event in Switzerland.
Acapulco is where divers leap off an 100 foot cliff into the Quebrada rocks. Acapulco is one of Mexico's cheif Pacific Ocean ports. This popular winter resort lies on a beautiful bay 140 miles southwest of Mexico City. "Quebrada" is a Spanish word meaning "gorge" or "canyon." La Quebrada is striking cliff formation on the ocean side of the western peninsula of Acopulco Bay. Daredevil divers perform outstanding feats from this 130 foot cliff. Not only do they have to plunge into a narrow crevice between rocks, but they can only dive on the incoming tide!
High Dive was created in 2003-04.
Acapulco (16° 51' 59'' N, 99° 52' 57'' W), on the southern state of Guerrero, is such place. However, it is a pretty large city, with a population of 781,845 (2005).
There are two major steps in solving this problem. First, we have to figure out how long it takes a monkey to fall 10m. Second, we divide the distance from the base of the cliff by the number of seconds to estimate the unfortunate simian's velocity. To get the time the monkey falls, (assuming this is on Earth with gravitational acceleration equal to 9.8 m / s), use the equation d = 4.9t2 . t = sqrt(d/4.9). Filling in the given value for d (10m) we get t = sqrt (10/4.9) which is about 1.43 seconds. If the monkey travelled outward 5m from the edge of the cliff in 1.43 seconds, the furry fellow was going 5m / 1.43s or about 3.5 m/s. Why the monkey chose to do the Acapulco Cliff Dive remains a mystery known only to him, and he is not talking.
High Cliff State Park was created in 1956.
