It really depends on the industry and the situation. I worked for a drycleaners, and we used to find all sorts of things in peoples pockets. Money mostly, and we never returned it. Some of my co-workers found hundreds of dollars. and one time one person found 1000 dollars. we never saw any negative side affects from keeping the money. but it is possible that the customers assumed that if they left it in the pocket it would not be returned. But to answer the question. even with the unethical behavior, the business still did really well. but it could have gone either way. had someone complained we could have been in alot of trouble. we were just lucky i suppose...
