The Gosselins are a nuclear family, parents and children living together.
They were involved with the twins until the sextuplets were born. Kates parents Charlene and Kenton Kreider had donated clothing and cribs. Kate Gosselin refused because the clothing was not matching and the cribs were not the same. Instead she asked for money her parents refused and that is why Kate Gosselins parents are not involved with the kids.

The Gosselins rarely talk about the grandparents and they do not say to protect the parents' privacy.
Kate's parents were never really involved in their kids. Kate stated that "some grandparents are involved and some aren't." "That's why you don't see them around," she said. Jon's parents live in Hawaii. Jon has a stepfather/stepmother. His father passed away around the time the sextuplets were born, but was very involved when he was around. Kate's brother Kevin lives in the Gosselin's old neighborhood. I am not sure why you don't see them on the show anymore, but tabloids claim he and Kate are fighting over whether all the media attention is right for the kids.
Yes, Kate Gosselins are alive and well and live in central Pennsylvania. Yes. Kate's parents are both still alive and living in the same part of Pennsylvania as the Gosselins.

it depends on the parent/parents involved, how they interact with one another, and the child or children involved. it depends on whether the parents were ever together or not and if the child has gotten used to living with both parents. there are so many variables, including societal influences; therefore, it is not a general answer.
Not much is known about Kate Gosselin's parents other than they are alive and Kate does not have much of a relationship with them. Kate also has siblings.
Nuclear families (families with children AND parents), Step families (families with parents or parent who has/have children from previous relationships), Extented families (families with aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins, etc.) ,Single parents families (families containing only one parent in charge of the rest of the family) and Adopted families (families who have adopted children to the family).

Jon's mother is remarried, and does not live close enough to be involved in their day-to-day lives. Jon explained that while his mother is not close by, they talk on the phone nearly every day. Kate's parents live in the same general area as the Gosselins, but are not involved for a variety of private, personal reasons.
