Jon and Kate do discuss their parents on the show. During the episode Viewer FAQ, Jon and Kate explain that Jon's father was very involved with the sextuplets, but that he died when they were very little. Jon's mother is remarried, and does not live close enough to be involved in their day-to-day lives. Jon explained that while his mother is not close by, they talk on the phone nearly every day. Kate's parents live in the same general area as the Gosselins, but are not involved for a variety of private, personal reasons.

It gives them self confidence. Maybe because- you are a bad singer and you never want anyone to hear you... or its because- you are a really good sing, but yet are afraid for you parents, (and/or) peers to hear you sing.... This is my opinon. It might be yours too.
