Lincoln was President during the Civil War and he is given credit for leading the Union to victory over the secessionist South, and also for the abolition of slavery which was a consequence of the war. It is possible that the United States of America would not have survived without Lincoln, and would be two (or more) countries today. Lincoln was, therefore, extremely significant.
