Natural gas is not "refined", it is generally treated &/or processed. Natural gas, as extracted from a well, is typically not the same as the natural gas that is commonly used in homes & industry. Depending on the source of the natural gas, the gas may contain heavier hydrocarbons (ethane, propane, & pentanes; aka "liquids" &/or "products") and/or contaminates such as sulfur, water, carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, ... that must be removed so that the consumable "natural gas" ("Methane", also referred to as "Residue gas" once processed) can be transported via pipelines (interstate &/or intrastate) to markets and/or city gates (delivery to municipalities for transmission to end-users).

Natural gas processing consists of extracting the contaminates and separating the heavier hydrocarbons to bring the gas to what is known as "Pipeline quality" (gas the meets the standards established by the transporting pipeline). Gas plants may use refrigeration or cryogenic technology (basically, by cooling & controlling pressures the various heavier liquids drop & are collected) to "process" the gas. Various methods, many similar to processing, may be used to "treat" the gas (removal of contaminates) such as changing &/or controlling pressure fluctuations &/or temperature fluctuations.

Sort of. The compounds that make up natural gas are principally methane, ethane, butane and propane are found in gasoline. Gasoline is a refined product from crude oil, that contains more higher weight hydrocarbons.

Is petrol man made?

Petrol is somewhat man made. Oil is a natural resource but it must be refined in order to make gas or petrol from it.

Where do you get are natural gas from?

Natural gas is found deep below the earth's surface. Much of it is contained in shale rock. A modern technology called fracking (hydraulic fracturing), which uses high water pressure to break up the shale rock is used to recover natural gas. The natural gas is then refined and used. The United States has an abundance of natural gas that can be recovered. Natural gas is currently used to heat our homes and run home appliances. It has recently been used to power transit buses and trucks. Natural gas buses are becoming very prevalent. Natural gas vehicles are becoming much more common as natural gas is the cleanest burning fuel in existence today.

What are the types of fossil fuel?

Coal (there are many kinds of coal)Oil (there are many kinds of oil and byproducts, but they usually all are refined from crude oil).Natural gas (basically only one kind, methane).
