Hurricane Sandy made landfall on the East Coast on October 29, 2012 but had some effects as early as October 26.
According to the theory of Plate Tectonics and Pangaea, the east coast boundaries were once connected to the west coast boundaries of Africa, Europe, and parts of north-western Asia. The irregularity of the east coast of the Americas as well as the west coast of the respective continents were caused by the "tearing" of one land mass from the other, an action which did not happen on the west coast resulting in a straighter more regular west coast.
Hurricane Katrina made landfall in the U.S. on August 29, 2005.
