The Senators serve 6 year terms and there are 2 from each state for 100 total. The Senate is divided into classes. At the start of a term they are Freshman, then they will be Juniors, and finally Senior. The constitution states that each Senator be elected to represent their state. The Senate is the upper house.
The constitution sets two bodies in the legislative branch. The Senate is the upper house with 100 members. Each state has 2 Senators. They are elected for six years term. Together with the House of Representatives they make Congress. Giving the legislative branch 535 members. A law cannot pass without both bodies passing it and sending to the President. Checks and balance at work.
