it is going great or it was but due to the economic down fall a lot of funding for astronomy has been cut back so it is doing ok we have desovered a lot latley too.

Modern Astronomy is the astronomy in which we actually started looking at celestial bodies up close. Today there is a lot going on about the information of astronomy. Galileo was the first modern astronomer, just an interesting fact to throw in!
The reason why astronomy is important to the world is because we need to know when the next meteor showers are, how strong they are going to be, and we wouldn't now know that the world is possibly going to end in either 2012, or 2036. OK? :) Go tell your friends, to never under estimate astronomy.

On the web. Seriously, this is not hard. You might try going to nasa.gov and poking around there, or maybe stsci.edu. One of my favorites is APOD, though it's not always strictly speaking "astronomy" except very loosely.
