There are two main sources:

  1. Dead aquatic organisms (such as shells, fish bones etc.) matter grind together and get broken down into tiny little grains which are washed onto shores, forming large deposits.
  2. The result of the erosion of the lithosfere (rocks) oven hundered of millions of years of sea tides, rain (very often acid rain in the past geologic eras), wind erosion and thermic amplitudes.

Sand existed in all Fanerozoic eon, and possibly was first created in the Proterozoic eon.

Sand gets deposited along the sides of headlands.(the portion of land projecting into the sea are called headlands)such depostions extends parallel to the coast from one headland to the next.over a period of time, these deposits extend over long distances and develop into a bund (or bar) that protrudes into the water at some distance away from the beach. these are called sand bars.

Mountain rocks are weathered by wind, rain and ice, and the grains are carried along water courses to the sea. In the sea, currents carry the grains either out to sea, or along the coast (long shore drift). Eventually, the grains of sand may be deposited in calm areas and so form a sandy beach. When the beach is exposed at low tide, wind may pick up the dried sand grains and blow them inland to form sand-dunes.
