In Hebrew - therefore also in Jewish English - they can be called a דרשן darshan (homilist, someone who interprets Scripture). There is also a traditional role of preacher/storyteller, called a מגיד maggid. -- In many synagogues today, the person who usually gives sermons is the rabbi -- as part of their responsibilities to the congregation.
