Old Major is somewhat of a mixture of Marx and Lenin. Orwell based Old Major on the pair because while he was not a Marxist he did have great respect for Marx and Lenin was of course the leader of the Russian Revolution and 'Animal Farm' presents Orwell's basic views of the Russian Revolution. He thought there were wonderful ideas inspiring and great people leading it but it became degraded and became no better really than capitalism.
