"Commercial Farming" means agriculture but on a grand scale! To maximize profits, a commercial farm has certain needs:

  1. large number of acres dedicated solely to crops
  2. a specific plan for crop rotation to avoid deleting the soil
  3. pre-planned measures to replenish the soil's nutrients, ex. resting a plot for a season, or planting a crop known to spare certain nutrients that the next crop will need
  4. a mechanized way to do most farming tasks; large machines and many machines
  5. a large storage area
  6. methods for prompt delivery of crops to markets; fast turn-around of cash for selling the crops
  7. a business plan to keep the endeavors running smoothly
  8. enough staff and workers to keep the operations running well

Otherwise, smaller farms do the same things, but with fewer workers, little machinery, and the whole process relies on just a few workers. It can be harder for small farms to compete and to sell their crops.

How does traditional agriculture compare with commercial farming?

Traditional Agriculture is different than commercial farming because commercial farming is done to make a large profit and is usually not used by the people growing the plants. Commercial farming is usually done by a crew of people who work for an hourly pay, where as Agricultural farming is usually done by one person and their family and is done for themselves. They also use traditional agriculture to make a small profit but nothing large as they usually have to sell it themselves. Therefore traditional agriculture is not as large as commercial farming.
