Driving safer is important because it benefits everyone on the road. Driving safer doesn't mean following all rules and laws, for example: the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration did a study and concluded that the safest speed on US highways was 10 miles per hour faster than the average speed of other drivers on the highways. Since the average speed is about 10 miles per hour over the posted speed limit signs, the safest way to drive would be about 20 miles per hour over posted speed limits. However, driving "safe" in that respect puts yourself at risk of various legal consequences, especially since socialist states like Maryland now use Speed Cameras to issue tickets.
On the average though, it is important for your own safety and well being, to be alert to other drivers and obstacles on the road. I don't know about you, but I'm not a fan of getting into accidents that are my fault, and I don't want to get hit by some idiot driver who isn't paying attention to the road.
The bluetooth ear pieces make driving easier, though not necessarily safer.

Statistically, by virtually every single measure, it is far safer to fly. Tens of thousands of people around the world are killed on the roads every year. Very few indeed, are killed while flying.
