How is erosion not evidence for a young Earth?

Some have claimed that, at present rates of erosion, the silt that has been washed out to sea would cover the seabed up to the present water surface. Of course, present rates of erosion are high because it is mainly loose soil that is eroded, and soil did not exist until igneous rocks were broken down into fine particles over a period of millions of years. It should be noted that silt deposits simply raise the water level, and therefore there is actually no absurdity in this. Also, the earth's surface is dynamic, and through a process of volcanic activity and plate tectonics it is constantly renewing itself.
